2.3 Rupture Index
To compare between the behavior of the different configurations analyzed in this research, a rupture index was used and computed for different cases; this same methodology and approach was used by others [13, 15-18].
The rupture index (RI) is defined as:
The rupture index was introduced by Hancock and Mackenzie [19].
The rupture index was computed at three locations, the top surface of the beam flange at the column face, at the nose of the reinforcing plate and the top surface of the reinforcing plate at the face of the column.
